November has plenty of fun food Holidays including National Nacho Day on November 6th! Yep – it’s a thing! Celebrate the BBQ Dragon way with GRILLED NACHOS!
The True Foodie Story about Nachos
Nachos have a backstory! Chef and restauranteur Ignacio Anaya García was a Mexican executive chef who invented the popular snack nachos by serving up a plate of tortilla chips with jalapenos and cheese. That happened back in the 1940s at the Victory Club restaurant in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. According to food lore, a regular customer named Mamie Finan asked Anaya if he could bring her and her guests something different for a snack.
Anaya combined fresh tortilla chips with melted cheese and pickled jalapenos. After Mamie and her friends dove into the dish they asked what they were eating.
The answer, “Well, I guess we can just call them Nacho’s Special.” Nacho is short for his name Ignacio!
The dish made it to the main menu of the Victory Club. Later, when the club closed Ignacio opened his own restaurant. The chef credited for one of the most popular Tex-Mex style dishes passed away in 1975. Now, the city of Piedras Negras holds “Nacho Fest” every year!
Wait, Tex-Mex?
Ignatius invented the three-ingredient “Nacho” but the crazy versions of his popular dish are mostly credited to variations found in Tex-Mex cooking. The term “Nacho” appeared for the first time as a recipe, according to food historians, in a cookbook published in 1949 titled “A Taste of Texas.” The dish now includes the three original ingredients and just about anything else you can pile onto your bed of chips!
How To Grill Nachos!
Grilling up a batch of Nachos is Easy! All you need is the BBQ Dragon Grill Mat! Place a pile of tortilla chips on the BBQ Dragon Grill Mat, top with your selected pre-cooked meats such as seasoned taco meat, smoked pulled pork, grilled seasoned steak strips, or whatever you can think of! Add beans, onions, peppers, jalapeno slices, and cheese!
Close your grill cover, allow the cheese to melt and the nachos to warm through. Then gently slide the complete dish over to a serving tray. You can even pick up the corners of the grill mat and transfer the entire thing to a cookie tray or serving tray!
Now, add the cool ingredients, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, sour cream, and more! Serve hot and enjoy!
The BBQ Dragon Delux Grill Mats are perfect for everything from Nachos and kabobs, to burgers, seafood, and even scrambled eggs! The mats come in a pack of THREE, are heavy-duty, and make your grill even more versatile! Plus, you can use them in the kitchen in your oven.
If you’ve just ordered your mats and you are still crazing grilled Nachos – grab some foil and non-stick spray until your BBQ Dragon Deluxe Grill Mat three mat set arrives!
